Canada: January 2013 Car Sales down 2%. Honda dropped down.

January 2013, the car market in Canada posted 95.445 sales, down 2.1% from the previous year, when the market had scored a huge 15% increase over 2011 data. The positive economic environment, with low interest rates and low unemployment level push for a further positive car market this year, potentially above 1.7 million vehicles

Looking at the best brands performance:

Ford started the year very well, with 15.921 sales and a share of 16.7%, up 1.6 points of share from the previous month and 0.6 points from full year 2012. Both Ford stars, F Series and Escape had improved their share.

Chevrolet surged in 2nd, up 2 spots from December, with 8.741 sales and 9.2% of share, up 1.4 points from the previous month and 0.9 points from full year 2012. The Silverado was only 9th, followed by Cruze in 10th.

Toyota was back in 3rd in spite a weak performance. Sales were 8.333 with a share of 8.7%, down 1.0 points of share from the previous month and 1.7 from full year 2012. The best-selling model was the Corolla stable in 8th place.

Hyundai was 4th with 7.349 sales and a share of 7.7%, up 0.5 points from the previous month and 0.4 from full year 2012. The top model was the Elantra, soared in third place.

Dodge was 5th selling 6.255 vehicles with a share of 6.6, up 1.3 points from the previous month and 1.4 from Q4. The best model was the Ram, grew in second place.

Honda paid the year end rush and dropped in 6th place from the 2nd, selling 6.211 units with a share of 6.5%, down 4.0 points from the phenomenal December and down 1.3 points from full year 2012. The top model was the Civic in 7th from the second place.

Ram was 7th with 5.540 sales and 5.8% of share, up 1.1 points from the previous month and 1.5 points from full year 2012.

Nissan was 8th with 4.101 units and a share of 4.3%, up 0.2 from the previous month while down 0.1 points from full year 2012. The top model was the Rogue in 28th place.

GMC was 9th with 3.987 sales and a share of 4.2%, down 0.3 points from the previous month while up 0.1 points from full year 2012. The Sierra was stable in 6th.

Mazda was 10th with 3.752 sales and 3.9% of share 0.6 points from the previous month while down 0.4 points from full year 2012.

Ram was second with 5.490 units and 5.8% of share, up 1.1 points from the previous.

The Elantra was third with 2.956 units and 3.1% of share, up 0.2 points from the previous month.

Dodge Grand Caravan was 4th, followed by Ford Escape and GMC Sierra. The Civic dropped in 7th from 2nd, while Corolla in 8th, Silverado in 9th and Cruze in 10th confirmed the previous position.
