In 2014 the Car Market in Puerto Rico fell in double digit, following the positive score of the previous year. Toyota stands on top of the list while Mazda and Infiniti were the fastest growing. Corolla was again the king.following the positive score of the previous year.
In the 2014, accordingly with local sources, the total light passenger vehicles sold in Puerto Rico have been 90.391, down 10.2%.
Following the 2013 when the market hit the 100.000 units, last year it was back inside the standard level performed in the recent year. The market is mature and there are little margin of growth in the middle term.
In the annual race on sales, the most relevant fact was the Kia underperformance that cost the loss on the third step of the podium in favor of Hyundai.
The market leader, Toyota was able to defend the position selling 24.093 units (-4.2%) with a share of 26.7%, the best market share in the entire American continent for Toyota and also the best share gained by any Japanese brand, doing better than Nissan in Mexico.
Nissan was again the second best brand with 8.753 sales (-16.1%) ahead of Hyundai with 8.726 units (-12.3%) and Kia with 8.378 (-17.2%).
Considering the performance of all players, we could affirm that the winner of the year was Mazda (9th with 2.534 sales, +18.0%), followed by Infiniti (18th with 514 units, +10.3%).
As far as the car group’s performance and ranking, the leader was Toyota with 28.5% of market share, ahead of Hyundai Group with 18.9% and Renault-Nissan with 10.3%.
As far as best-selling models ranking, the Toyota Corolla was on top of the list with 8.490 units (+1.5%) followed by Toyota Yaris with 6.231 (+7.0%) and Mitsubishi Mirage with 4.447 (+120.3%).
