February 2015 at lowest since 2008 for car sales in Russia with market dropped 38 percent in absence of demand. American brands, Ford, Chevrolet and Opel are near the collapse while Korean are gaining.

In February 2015 according to data released by the Association of European Businesses in Russia, new Light Passengers Vehicles sold in Russia have been 128.298, down 37.9% compared with the correspondent month last year.

Year to date February sales had been 243.688, down 32.1%.

The last was the 22nd Y.o.Y. declining month out of the last 24 while the level of fall was the highest since the 2008 crisis, projecting the market below any pessimistic expectations.

Considering the automotive sector relevance in the general economy, the cost of the Ukraine crisis for Russian people is harsh and demonstrates how the modern Russia is connected with the rest of human community, the EU overall.

In February Lada (Autovaz) sold 23.629 vehicles (-24.6), recovering in terms of market share at 18.4%, up 3.2 points from the previous month.

Behind, Koreans carmakers are further gaining space towards the rest of players. Hyundai was able to gain 4.0% compared with February 2013 selling 13.233 units and Kia minimized the lost at 2.4%, with 12.563 registrations.

Behind, premium German brands are growing with Mercedes 9th with 4.595 units, +15.5% and BMW up 20.9% with 3.550 sales (only Audi was down 20%).

Among the top losers, the American brands with Ford down 69.6% (with 1.399 sales), Chevrolet -71.2% (3.255) and Opel -81.8% (912).

As far as the car group’s performance and ranking, the Renault-Nissan led with 35.5% of market share, ahead of Hyundai-Kia with 20.1% and Volkswagen Group with 11.4%.

As far as best-selling models ranking, the Lada Granta  was back on top of the list with 10.583 units (-6.2%) ahead of Hyundai Solaris  with 8.001 units (-7.6%) and the Lada 4×4 with 3.779 (+20.0%).
