Posting the fifth consecutive declining year, the Serbian car industry in the 2012 dropped 27.5% from the previous year with December sales down 45.3%. In the 2012 Fiat Group had lost the market leadership and one third of its market share. Skoda is the new leader.
Following nine consecutives declining months, the Serbian car market in November posted a sharp decline, down 25.9% from last year. Hit by really negative economic environment, the year-to-date market was down 26.3%. Skoda further improved market share and was near 20%.
Born in the 1954, the Serbian car industry is struggling to recover after the nineties’ collapse and the recent effects of international economic crisis. The local producer, Fiat Automobile Serbia, a joint venture with the Zastava facilities, has lost the market leadership, while Fiat 500L production started.
