Colombia new vehicles registrations

Colombia new vehicles registrations fell sharply in the first half 2016 due to the weak domestic demand. However, few brands are gaining, including Renault and Mazda.

Market Outlook

Preliminary data indicate that low oil prices, poor agricultural production and weak domestic demand have finally caught up with Colombia. The economy expanded 2.5% annually in Q1, marking the lowest quarterly figure since the height of the financial crisis in 2009 and a deceleration from Q4’s 3.4% growth.

Following the over 17 percent lost reported during the first quarter, the Colombian new vehicles market had been again down in double-digit in the second with the three months from April to June losing respectively 7.2%, 13.5% and 8.2%.

According to data released by ANDI, the Colombian Associations of Car Manufacturers, the first half 2016 sales were 117.09, down 13.7% from the same period of the previous year.

Competitive Arena

During the first half, the market leader was Chevrolet with 28.651 (-13.8%) and 24.5% of market share.

In second place Renault with 23.587 units (+7.3%) followed by Kia with 11.805 (-10.5%).
