Croatian Auto market has decelerated in 2019. Indeed, the full-year registered 62.931 units, improving just 4.8% from the previous year. Volkswagen held the throne with 13.5% of share while Skoda gained the second position, improving in double-digits. Dacia shined, jumping in 5th place.
Economic Environment
Croatian economy gathered pace somewhat in the third quarter, after activity waned in the prior quarter on softer domestic demand. The labor market continued to improve, with wages growing solidly in July–August and the unemployment rate falling to a new all-time low in Q3.
This, combined with retail sales holding resilient and consumer sentiment rising throughout the quarter, alludes to upbeat household spending. The external sector, however, with a sharp decline in merchandise exports in August and slowing tourist arrivals in the quarter, may have weighed on overall activity.
Market Trend
Croatian vehicles market hit the all-time record volume in 2008 outpacing the 100.000 units for the first and only time, before to be swept up by the crisis, with volume rolled down at 33.000 in 2013. Then a new pathway was taken, recovering year after year. In 2018, the strong demand supported the market to maintain momentum. Indeed, the car passenger’s ended the year with registrations at 60.039 sales (+18.3%).

After hitting a peak of 17.1% market share in 2013, Volkswagen fluctuated around 14-16% in recent years, while ending at 13.5% in 2019. However, the German brand was still on top of the ranking, followed by Skoda which has overtaken Renault, both holding over 9% of share. Remarkable performance scored by Dacia, jumping in 5th position.
