Cyprus Cars Market in 2016 kept recovering after the crisis with a strong increase over the previous year while still at the half of the record level. Ford market leader, ahead of Nissan and Volkswagen.
Market Outlook
Cyprus’ main economic indicators for the end of 2016 look positive, with industrial production and retail sales growing strongly in October and November respectively, and consumer and business confidence rising substantially over the year, despite dipping slightly in December. Growth is likely to dip slightly in 2017 but should remain robust, fueled by tourism and greater private consumption and exports.
Near to reach 2.000 units for the first time since 2012, the domestic cars market posted a splendid annual increase in double-digit for the third consecutive year. Despite the registrations in December ended the year with a negative mood, 2016 was great with 12.839 units (+24.1%).
Therefore actual level is almost the half of the record hit in the 2008.
Sales of light commercial vehicles had been 1.923 (+33.3%).
Competitive Arena
Ford kept the leadership with 2.186 sales (+27.1%) ahead of Nissan and Volkswagen respectively up 19.0% and 18.7% at 1.838 and 1.461. Among the highest growths of the 2016 were recorded by Suzuki, Land Rover, Mazda, Renault and Fiat, while the best performers were Honda and Hyundai, surging 152.7% and 129.5%.
Jaguar, Subaru and Citroen posted the only double-digit declines of the year, followed by Volvo, Dacia, Kia, Audi and Porsche with less remarkable sales losses.
The best selling model was the Volkswagen Golf for the second consecutive year with 733 units (+5.9%) ahead of the Nissan Qashqai with 661 (+0.3%) and the Ford Fiesta with 498 (+29.9%.)
