Danish car sales advanced 20% in March. Toyota soared in second place.

As reported by the Danish Car Importers Association – De Danske Bilimportører (DBI) -Danish car market In March posted 14.959 sales, up 20.8%. Year-to-date sales were 41.950, up 8.3%, one of the best performances in Europe.

The success of their city-cars is pushing Volkswagen and Skoda performance up, with share improved in the quarter respectively by 2.7 and 2.3 points of share from full year 2012, while Peugeot, Citroen and Kia had significantly lost share.

Giving a deeper look at the best brands performance:

Volkswagen in 1st sold 2.179 with a share of 14.6%, up 1.3 points of share from the previous month and 2.7 points from last year share. Year-to-date March sales were 6.183 with a share of 14.7%. Volkswagen held 4 models in the top 50, with the Up! as market leader.

Toyota flew to the 2nd position (4th year-to-date), up 5 spots from February, with 1.368 sales and a share of 9.1%, up 3.1 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 3.159 with a share of 7.5%. Toyota held 5 models in the top 50, with the Aygo in 3rd position.

Ford was 3rd (2nd year-to-date) selling 1.185 units with a share of 7.9%, up 0.1 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 3.443 with a share of 8.2%. Ford held 4 models in the top 50, with the Fiesta in 4th position.

Skoda was 4th (3rd year-to-date) selling 1.139 vehicles, only 46 units less than the Ford, with a share of 7.6%, down 1.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 3.198 with a share of 7.6%. The top model was the Citigo in 2nd position.

Peugeot was 5th, selling 891 units with a share of 6.0%, down 0.6 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 2.788 with a share of 6.6%. The best-selling model was the 208 in 6th position.

Looking at the best-selling models, the Volkswagen Up! In 1st sold 1.251 units with a share of 8.4%, up 0.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 3.729 with a share of 8.9%.

The Citigo was 2nd, selling 613 units with a share of 4.1%, down 1.9 points from the previous month, followed by the Aygo in 3rd, up 3 spots from February, with 440 sales and a share of 2.9%.

The Fiesta was 4th, selling 413 units with a share of 2.8%, down 0.9 points from the previous month, followed by the Citroen C1 in 5th with 399 sales and a share of 2.7%,d own 0.4 points from the previous month.

The Peugeot 208 was 6th selling 375 units with a share of2.5%, down 1.0 points from the previous month, followed by the Corsa in 7th, up 17 spots from February, with 363 sales and a share of 2.4%, up 1.2 points from the previous month, and by the Ka in 8th, up 18 spots, with 325 sales and a share of 2.2%, up 1.1 points from the previous month.

Behind it was a positive month for the Toyota Avensis in 24th, up 57 spots from February, for the Renault Megane in 33th, up 27 spots, and for the Toyota Verso in 39th, up 67 spots from the previous month.

It was a negative month for the Kia Picanto in in 16th, down 9 spots from February, and for the Kia Rio in 36th, down 28 spots from the previous month.
