Fiat Serbia is struggling losing over one fourth of market share while the domestic car market fell 15% in May posting the fourth year on year decrease in a row. Skoda gained the leadership while Volkswagen in third place boomed sales.
In May 2014 accordingly with data released by the local Association of Car Manufacturers, total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold have been 1.981, down 15.5% from year ago. Year to date May sales have been 8.609, down 6.3% from year ago.
Main fact in this first part of the year is the Fiat struggling with the loss of around one fourth of market share while Volkswagen grew by almost the same amount, let observers assuming a shift of customers among the two competitors.
Skoda kept the leadership overtaking Fiat with 1.495 sales in the first five months with a share of 17.4%, down 0.4 points from last year.
Fiat, leader last year and the only domestic player thanks to the joint venture with the government to produce the 500L in the old Zastava plant, incurred in an awful start of the year, with sales down at 1.306 units or 15.2% of share, down 5.1 points from the full year last year. Fiat had stopped the plant productions for many weeks.
Volkswagen is fast growing and in this period sold 931 vehicles with share at 10.8%, up a robust 4.4 points from last year.
Holden in second place retailed 9.012 cars with share at 9.5%, down 0.2 points from the previous month with cumulate sales at 44.441 and share at 10.1%, up 0.2 points from last year. The Commodore ranked in fourth place with 2.648 retails.
