France Auto Sales in May 2016 reported the highest increase since 2007 reaching 12 months of up line albeit the recent controversial labor reform generated strikes in many key sectors. Dacia shines.

Market Outlook

President François Hollande approved in May a controversial labor reform bill by special decree that allows him to bypass Parliament. The bill, which seeks to liberalize the French labor market, is strongly opposed by the country’s trade unions.

Quarterly GDP data for Q1 was revised upward, while in May consumer confidence reached an over-nine-year high and the manufacturing PMI improved notably.

Meanwhile, the car industry has gained ground in the double-digit and in May had recorded the highest percentage growth since 2007. reaching in the May 12 months of consecutive growth line.

According to data released by the C.C.F.A, the French Associations of Car Manufacturers, the registrations reported this month had been 175.831, improving of 22.3%.

Year to date total car passenger’s sales had been 875.076, up 10.5% compared to the same period of 2015.

Competitive Arena

In May, Renault led the competition with 34.260 sales (+32.6%) and 19.5% of market share, followed by Peugeot with 30.994 (+23.1%) and Citroen with 18.540 (+29.8%).

Volkswagen has sold 12.700 (+7.6%) ahead of Dacia in fifth place with 9.457 units (+39.3%), Ford with 6.871 (-1.3%), Opel with 6.459 (+2.2%) and Toyota with 6.212 (+22.6%).

As far as the Car Groups performance, the new leader was PSA with 29.5% of market share, ahead of Renault-Nissan with 28.4%, Volkswagen with 13.0% and BMW with 4.0%.

The model ranking was led by the Renault Clio  with 9.684 sales (+27.8%) ahead to the Peugeot 208 with 8.192 (+37.7%), the Peugeot 308 with 7.871 (+21.8%), the Peugeot 2008 with 6.850 (+25.3%), the Renault Captur with 5.936 (+41.0%) and the Dacia Sandero with 5.043 (+62.1%).
