France: car market in July 2012 down 7%. Peugeot on top of list driven by new 208

The July car industry data arrived together with UE reports on GDP, with France flat in the 2nd quarter 2012, better than expected. After the plan announced by PSA aiming to close a plant and fire over 8.000 workers, the country is living a summer of debates over the opportunity to sustain the industry. The impression is that Mr Holland will finally support the domestic producers to maintain employment.

The next months appear again full of clouds and Focus2move.com full year 2012 forecast for France market was hold at 1.950.000 units, down 11.5% from previous year.

Thanks to the new 208 success, in July Peugeot was market leader with 24.232 sales and a share of 16.3%, surpassing Renault by few units. Renault sold 24.149 cars with a share of 16.2%, down 3.1 points of share from previous month, the worst share of the year.

Citroen in 3rd position was not far, with 22.334 units and a share of 15.0%, up 0.3 points from the previous months, posting the best share of the year.
