France: Car Sales Summary. October 2013 a winter sunbeam.

Accordingly with data released by C.C.F.A., in October the French car market has posted a little recovery with 166.515 sales, up 2.6% from last year. Thanks to this positive performance, the year-to date gap from 2012 was reduced. Total October figures were 1.476.328, down 7.4%.

Light Commercial Vehicles sold were 36.281, up 4.0%, breaking a series of 14th consecutive year on year declines. This break could be a positive sign anticipating future new vehicles market trend, as recovering positive economic expectations is the base for stable market growth. This month we report the French top LCV brands ranking, as first time.

Looking at the top brands performance:

Renault started the new quarter following the outstanding September volume performance and needed to recreate a customer portfolio. As consequence the 30.807 registrations represented a lower than usual share, at 18.5%, not only 4.6 points below September while 0.5 below year to date. Ten Months sales were 280.418 with a share of 19.0%, up 0.9 points from FY 2012. Almost all models have lost share and positions. However, Clio kept the leadership.

Peugeot sold 29.196 units and recovered terrain from Renault, with share at 17.5%, up 1.5 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 241.240 with a share of 16.3%, up 0.2 from F.Y. 2012. Top model was again the 208, in second place.

Citroen in 3rd sold 23.133 vehicles with a share of 13.9%, up 1.3 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 196.900 with a share of 13.3%, down 0.7 points from last year. Top model was the C3 ranked third, up 3 spots.

Volkswagen was 4th with 12.162 sales and share flat at 7.3%. Year-to-date sales were 115.111 with a share of 7.8%, down 0.3 points from F.Y. 2012. The top model Polo ranked 9th.

Ford advanced in 5th with 7.461 sales and 4.5% of share, up 0.8 points of share. Year to date Ford was sixth with 64.080 sales and 4.3% of share, down 0.6 points from last year. The top model Fiesta ranked 14th.

Dacia ranked 6th with 7.260 units and 4.4% of share, up 0.8 points from September. Year-to-date it was 5th with 72.555 sales and 4.9% of share, up 0.9 points from FY 2012.

Toyota was 7th with 6.943 sales and a share of 4.2%, up 0.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 58.221 with a share of 3.9%, up 0.3 points from last year. The top model was again the Yaris ranked 17th.

Audi advanced in 8th place with5.540 registrations and 3.3% of share, up 0.1 points. Year to date Audi was 10th with 48.334 sales and 3.3% of share, flat on last year.

Renault Clio was the market leader with 10.513 sales and a share of 6.3%, down 1.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 105.260 with a share of 6.9%.

Peugeot 208 was stable in 2nd with 8.028 units and a share of 4.8%, up 0.2 points from the previous month. Year to date sales were 77.411 with a share of 5.2%.

Citroen C3 was third with 6.351 sales and 3.8% of share, up 0.9 points from the previous month. Year to date sales were 40.547 with a share of 2.7%.

Peugeot 2008 was 4th best place ever and up 5 spots with 5.301 units and a share of 3.2%, up 1.1 points from the previous month, followed by Renault Captur in 5th, down 2 spots, with 5.175 sales and a share of 3.1%.

Citroen C4 Picasso was 6th with 4.838 sales and a share of 2.9%, followed in 7th by Peugeot 308 with 4.681 sales and in 8th by Renault Scenic, with 4.581.

First imported vehicle was Volkswagen Polo in 9th with 3.696 units, ahead of Renault Twingo, 10th with 3.624.
