French car September sales

French car September sales kept the speed as more recent data suggest that economic activity is picking up pace. All top players had reported moderate improvement in this month.

Market Outlook

French economy in the final Q2 GDP reading recorded a 0.1% drop over the previous quarter, which was revised down from the preliminary estimate of a flat growth rate and marked the first contraction in over three years. The economic growth waned in the second quarter and the latest data suggest that economic activity is picking up pace.

In September, the Manufacturing PMI jumped to a 15-month high and business sentiment improved.

Meantime, French vehicles sales in September kept the moderately positive path.

According to data released by the C.C.F.A, the French Associations of Car Manufacturers, new car passenger’s sales in September had been 168.820, up 2.5%. Year to date total car passenger’s sales had been 1.502.450, up 5.7%.

Competitive Arena

In September, Renault kept the leadership with 36.777 sales (+7.1%) and 21.9% of market share, followed by Peugeot with 27.840 (-2.4%) and Citroen with 14.569 (-13.8%).

Volkswagen has sold 12.176 units (+9.5%) ahead of Dacia in fifth place with 8.566 units (+13.5%), Nissan with 6.444 (-7.4%), Toyota with 6.209 (+9.0%) and Ford with 6.112 (-9.9%).

As far as the best-selling model, in September the Peugeot Clio was the new leader with 9.024 (+3.1%) followed by Peugeot 208 with 8.728 sales (-4.0%), the Renault Captur with 6.706 (-2.3%),  the Peugeot 308 with 6.094 (-4.4%), the Peugeot 2008 with 5.677 (+17.1%), the Renault Mégane with 5.377 (+51.7%) and the Dacia Sandero with 4.817 (+32.7%).
