German Car Sales in February Mercedes-Benz-GLC43_AMG_4Matic_2017

German Car Sales in February up in double-digit with the second best speed in last 5 years. Volkswagen still struggling while Opel is starring and is not far from the podium. Honda, Mitsubishi & Land Rover the faster!

Economic Outlook

Germany’s economy performed solidly in 2015. GDP expanded at a steady quarterly pace of 0.3% in Q4, bringing growth for the whole year to 1.7%. Last year’s slight uptick over 2014 mainly resulted from exceptionally strong private consumption, which was buttressed by a buoyant labor market, cheap oil and low inflation.

Public spending also rose, partly due to higher expenses related to the surge in refugees. Conversely, fixed investment and exports remained a weak spot. Moreover, Germany recorded a fiscal surplus for the second consecutive year and public finances were bolstered by higher income tax revenues and several one-off effects.

More recent data, however, point in diverging directions. February’s drop in both business confidence and in the PMI suggest a loss of momentum, particularly in the manufacturing sector. By contrast, March’s rise in consumer confidence underlines that private consumption is a robust growth engine.

Market Outlook

According to data released by the V.D.A. (Verband der Automobilindustrie) and the V.D.I.K. (Association of International Motor Vehicles Manufacturers), in February the car passenger’s sales have been 250.146 up 12.0%, the 9th Y.o.Y. increase in a string. Last month increase was the most significant since June last year and the second best in 5 years.

Volkswagen recovered a little after the January fall selling 52.256 cars (+4.2) with market share at 20.9%.

Audi was again in second place with 23.391 units (+14.5%) , just ahead of Mercedes with 22.243 (+23.2%) and BMW with 19.508 (+8.0%) while Opel confirmed the fast start with 19.154 sales (+28.0%).

Ford was back with 17.841 (+16.2%) followed by Skoda with 14.657 (+9.0%), Renault with 7.580 (+21.9%) and Hyundai with at 7.279 (+11.0%).  Fast movers had been Honda, (+60%), Mitsubishi (+40%) and Land Rover (+47%).
