Germany: July 2013 Car Market rose 2%. BMW, Audi & Mercedes at record profits.

In July 2013 new car passenger’s market in Germany was slightly positive with 253.146 sales, posting a 2.7% increase from last year. However, cumulated sales were still negative at 1.755.776, down 6.7%. Domestic market performance is not affecting German Makers global sales and Audi, BMW and Mercedes reported their record profit in the first half of the year.

BMW was very close at 1 million sales in the half, improving wholesale volume by 6% from the previous year, with 954.000 units (including 148.000 Mini and 1.500 Roll Royce). Mercedes ended the first half at 745.000 vehicles (including 51.000 Smart) while Audi wholesales were 780.000, again an all-time record.

Let’s take a look at the best brands performance in July:

Volkswagen was the market leader selling 55.525 vehicles with a share of 21.9%, down 0.8 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date July sales were 412.884 with a share of 22.5%. Volkswagen held 8 models in the top 50, with the Golf/Plus/Jetta as market leader.

Mercedes confirmed the 2nd place, selling 25.117 units with a share of 9.9%, up 0.4 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 172.574 with a share of 9.4%. Mercedes held 4 models in the top 50, with the E Class in 5th position.

Audi kept the 3rd place selling 21.814 vehicles with a share of 8.6%, up 0.7 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 150.063 with a share of 8.2%. Audi held 5 models in the top 50, with the A3 in 7th position.

Opel climbed to the 4th position (5th year-to-date) selling 18.591 units with a share of 7.3%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 126.697 with a share of 6.9%. The Astra was 7th.

BMW was 5th (4th year-to-date) selling 18.318 vehicles, only 273 models less than Opel, with a share of 7.2%, up 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 137.144 with a share of 7.5%. The 3 Series was 4th.

Ford was 6th selling 17.739 units with a share of 7.0%, down 0.3 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 122.189 with a share of 6.7%. The best-selling model was the Focus in 13th position.

Skoda was 7th selling 11.913 units with a share of 4.7%, down 0.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 89.293 with a share of 4.9%. The top model was the Octavia in 18th position.

Renault was 8th selling 9.023 with a share of 3.6%, up 1.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 61.518 with a share of 3.4%. The Megane was 36th.

Hyundai was 9th selling 7.995 units with a share of 3.2%, down 0.4 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 59.492 with a share of 3.2%. The best-selling model was the i30 in 32nd position.

Seat was 10th (11th year-to-date) with 7.498 sales and a share of 3.0%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 48.857 with a share of 2.7%. The top model was the Ibiza in 27th position.

Golf family was market leader with 18.884 units and a share of 7.5%, down 0.6 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 137.108 with a share of 7.8%.

Volkswagen Passat was 2nd with 7.656 units and a share of 3.0%, up 0.7 points from the previous month, followed by Volkswagen Polo in 3rd, up 2 spots from June, with 6.650 sales and a share of 2.6%, up 0.5 points from the previous month.

BMW 3 Series was 4th with 5.902 units and a share of 2.3%, stable from June, followed by Mercedes E Class in 5th, up 3 spots, with 5.537 sales and a share of 2.2%, up 0.1 points from the previous month, and by Volkswagen Tiguan in 6th with 4.945 sales and a share of 2.0%, up 0.1 points from the previous month.

Audi A3 was 7th, down 3 spots, with 4.881 sales and a share of 1.9%, down 0.2 points from the previous month, followed by the Opel Astra in 8th with 4.660 sales and a share of 1.8%, stable from June.

Mercedes C Class was 9th, down 3 spots, with 4.273 units and a share of 1.7%, down 0.2 points from the previous month, followed by Mercedes B Class in 10th, up 6 spots, with 4.173 sales and a share of 1.6%, up 0.1 points from the previous month.
