Greece: in 2013 Car Market was up. Hyundai and i20 Best of the Year

Accordingly with data released by Greek Association of Motor Vehicle Importers Representatives, in December 2013 the total new cars market in Greece was at 4.248 units, up 15.8%.

Full Year sales were finally positive at 58.696 units, up 0.4%, breaking a series of sixth declining year. However, it must be bared in mind as the 2007 pre-crisis sales level was 279.745 units.

Sharing general evaluation on Brands & Models performance, based not only on volume but also on results compared with potential, focus2move Team quoted the Best of the Year 2013, as Brand and Model. This was the result:

Brand of Year was Hyundai in 4th with 6.8% of share, up 2.3 points from 2012. Second was Mercedes ranked in13th with share at 3.2%, up 1.0 points from 2012. Third was Seat in 11th with share at 3.3%, up 1.2 points from 2012.

Model of Year was the new Hyundai i20 in 4th place with 3.7% of share, up 1.7 points from 2012. Second was Volkswagen Golf in 5th with 2.7% of share, up 2.0 points from last year. Third was Fiat Panda in 9th place with share at 2.5%, up 0.6 from year ago.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Volkswagen kept the leadership although share at 11.3% was down 2.0 points from November. Full Year Volkswagen was second with 6.329 sales and 10.8% of share, up 0.5 points from last year. In the year, the best-selling model was Polo in third while Golf was 5th.

Toyota ranked second with 476 sales and 11.2% of share, down 0.5 points of share from the previous month. Full Year Toyota was leader with 6.530 sales and a share of 11.1%, up 1.3 points from last year. Toyota Yaris was the market leader, while Auris was 11th ND Aygo 17th.

Mercedes soared in third place, up 11 spots, with 353 sales and 8.3% of share, up 5.6 points from November. However, in the year Mercedes was 13th and leader among luxury brands, with share at 3.2%. Best-selling model was Class A, second in December and 22nd in the year.

Opel was fourth selling 320 cars with 7.5% of share, down 2.9 points from the previous month. Full Year Opel was third with 5.569 units and 9.5% of share, losing 2.6 points from 2012. In the year, Corsa was second and Astra 10th.

BMW boomed sales as well, jumping in 5th place with 286 sales and 6.7% of share, up 3.5 points from November. In the year, it ranked 14th with 1.768 retails and 3.0% of share.

Ford slipped in 6th, down 2 spots, with 227 units and 5.3% of share, down 1.5 points from November. Full Year Ford was 9th with 2.843 units and 4.8% of share, down 0.7 points from 2012. The bestselling model was Fiesta in 6th place.
