Greece new cars sales

Greece new cars sales grew 8% in the third quarter 2015 despite the -28% scored in July when the financial agreement with Europe was heavily at risk. Toyota best seller while Mercedes was the best in September.

Economic Outlook

Greece’s economy astonished analysts by accelerating notably in the second quarter despite the ongoing uncertainty over the country’s future during the period. However, the positive result was partly due to plummeting imports and consumers’ likely front-loading of consumption over ‘Grexit’ fears.

Economic activity is likely to have been hit in the beginning of the third quarter by capital controls and bank closures, before recovering slightly toward the end of the period. The manufacturing PMI recovered some more lost ground in September—after hitting the lowest level on record in July—and industrial production rebounded in August.

On the political front, the government passed more austerity measures and unveiled a tough draft budget for 2016 complying with creditor’s demands. Despite the successful implementation of a number of economic reforms, the government still faces a daunting to-do list of overhauls demanded as part of the country’s bailout program.

Market Outlook

Following the +15.1% posted in the first half, the Greece new car markets in July was hit by the huge consumer’s break due to the uncertain about financial and political crisis solution. However, as the crisis was positively solved (at least for now) the level of consumption was back on the previous track.

According to data released by the Association of Motor Vehicle Importers Representatives, in July  new cars sales ha been 5.447 (-28.0%) recovering in August at 4.470 (+21.0%) and in September with 5.125 (+1.4%).

During the first nine months of the year, sales had been 58.183 (+8.1%).
