Honda Global Sales 2017. Up 7.8% overtaking Hyundai

Honda Global Performance 2017 kept momentum in the 2017 with sales up 7.8%, overtaking Hyundai in the global ranking, landing in 5th place. Performance is driven by growth in Asia and by the all time record volume hit by the Civic.

Honda is gaining momentum at global level following the already shining medium terms performance reported since 2010, with 2010-2016 sales grew at a Compound annual growth rate (C.A.G.R) of 6.9% (vs 4.6% of the industry). Moreover, in 2017 the Japanese brand improved the speed growing at a record 5.14 million sales, up 7.8%, overtaking Hyundai to conquest the 5th place Worldwide.

At regional level, CIS area and East Europe (including Turkey) boomed with sales respectively up 32.7% and 28.3%, but the brand is performing well all over and even in the areas generally in crisis, like Africa (excluding the Maghreb Area) is containing the lost at acceptable level, gaining market share. Very relevant the score in Asia (including China, Japan, Korea and India) where sales are up 13.4%.

At model level, during this year the last generation of the compact Civic was launched all over and it become the best-selling model of the brand with 814.000 sales and will hit the all time record sales for an Honda model in a calendar year, overtaking the SUV CR-V, second with 756.000. Third model was the Accord with 530.000 units.

Honda Global Performance Report

In the period 2010-2016 Honda global sales have been one of the best in absolute in terms of growing volumes, which have been increased by 41.2% from 3.38 million in the 2010 to 4.77 million in the 2017, performing a Compound annual growth rate (C.A.G.R) of 6.9%.

In this period, Honda has gained 1 step within the Global Car Brands Ranking landing in the sixth place, not far from Hyundai and Nissan.

In our exclusive study we report sales, year by year, for each region. So it is detailed the sales variations behind the fact that the top region actually is the Asian region counting the 55.6% of total sales (it was 47.8% in the 2010). Sales in America count 39.5% (from 44.5%), while European represent only the 3.8% (from 6.1%).

The study reports annual sales for each country in the World and we track Honda‘s sales in 140 countries. On top of all, in the 2017 there was USA with 30.9% of global sales share (from 32.4% in the 2010), ahead of China with 25.7% (from 19.0%), Japan with 14.8% (from 19.1%), Indonesia with 4.2% and Canada with 3.5%.

In the study all models sales are analyzed from 2010 to 2017.
