Hong Kong Car Market in 2014 hit the fifth all-time record in a row, outpacing the 50.000 units level for the first time. The Japanese Toyota led, thanks to commercial vehicles, followed by Mercedes and BMW.

In December 2014 according to data released by the Hong Kong Department of Transport (HKDT), total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold in Hong Kong have been 4.893, up a huge 22.0% compared with the correspondent month last year.

Full Year 2014 sales in Hong Kong have been 52.268, up 8.6% from 2013, hitting the new all-time record volume for the fifth year in a string, first time above 50.000 units.

Thanks to this great performance the market is now the 68th worldwide.

With 1.001 sales in December, Toyota’s sales soared 22% ending the year with a new record volume at 11.753 units (+20.2%).

As in the case of the other Asian city-state, Singapore, the Japanese giant is fighting with two German premium brands.

Mercedes ranked second with annual sales at 6.651 (+9.0%) and BMW third with 4.922 (-16.3%).

2014 was almost positive for Mazda (12th with 1.002, +49.2%), Isuzu (4th with 3.794 units, +65.0%) and Ford (13th with 950 units, +74.0%).

As far as the car groups performance and ranking, the leader was Toyota with 28.0% of market share, ahead of Volkswagen with 14.6% and Mercedes Benz with 12.9%.

As far as best-selling models ranking, the Toyota Hiace was on top with 3.096 annual sales (+33.0%) ahead of Toyota Noah with 1.803 units (+56.1%) and Toyota Crown LPG Taxi version with 1.669 (+204.0%).
