Hungary: First Half 2013 Car Market was flat. Ford market leader.

During the first half 2013 the Hungarian automotive industry did not recover and remained stable at the around 50.000 annual sales level, where it dropped after the 2008 financial crisis. In June sales have been 5.200, up 5.0% from last year with first half sales at 27.386, down 1.4%.

The competion in the market is concentrated in four brands, Ford, Volkswagen, Opel and Skoda, which combined a share of 47% in first half 2013.

Ford in June posted a wonderful market share, the best in three years, gaining further advantage from the group of followers. Ford in the first half 2013 has recovered the market leadership lost during year when it was overtaken by Opel and Skoda. First half sales were 3.665 with a share of 13.4%.

Volkswagen advanced in 2nd place from the 4th gained in the 2012. Although in June sales were only 426 during the first half Volkswagen sold 3.094 vehicles, 15 more than Skoda, with a share of 11.3%

Skoda was third in the last half of the year, 1 spot down from 2012, with 3.079 sales and a share of 11.2%, in spite of the Octavia advanced as top selling model in the market, from the second place taken last year.

Opel has lost the leadership gained in the 2012 and is fighting for the second place, place kept in June, while in first half it was only 4th, with 3.005 sales and 11.0% of share. While the Astra has lost the leadership and was 2nd, Corsa entered in top ten.

Suzuki was 5th with 1.817 sales and 6.6% of share. Hungary is the market where the Japanese brand is best placed in Europe and one of the best in the world.

Skoda Octavia sales were boosted by last generation launch and advanced as market leader, with 1.509 sales in the first half, with a share of 5.5% (6.7% in June)

Opel Astra was in second with 1.230 sales and a share of 4.5%, down 4.0 points of share from last year. Ford Focus kept the third place with 981 sales and 3.6% of share.
