Hungary: August 2013 market surged 17%. Opel on top of the race.

In August 2013, accordingly with data released by the Association of the Hungarian Automotive Industry, the Car Passenger’s sales in the country were 4.167, up 17.7%. This was the 6th year on year increase in a string and allowed the recovery of weak first quarter performance. Indeed, year to date sales were 36.366, only 1.6% up from last year.

Looking at top brands performance:

Opel was the market leader posting a negative month, with 449 sales and a share of 10.8%, down 3.5 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date August sales were 4.174 with a share of 11.5%, down 2.0 points from 2012. Opel held2 models in the top 10, with the Astra in 2nd position.

Volkswagen was 2nd, up 2 spots from July, selling 426 vehicles with a share of 10.2%, down 1.3 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 4.099 with a share of 11.3%., up 2.7 points from 2012.

Skoda was third selling 367 units with a share of 8.8%, down 3.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 4.050 with a share of 11.1%. The Octavia was the market leader.

Ford fell to the 4th position, losing 2 spots from July, with 358 vehicles and a share of 8.6%, down 4.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 4.670 with a share of 12.8%, up 3.0 points from 2012. Ford held 2 models in the top 10, with the Focus in 3rd position.

Suzuki was 5th with 312 units and a share of 7.5%, up 1.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 2.438 with a share of 6.7%, up 0.5 points from 2012. The Swift was 4th.
