India Cars Sales in May 2016

India Cars Sales in May 2016 at record again posting the 19th year on year increase in a string and booming near 30% for the second month in a row. However, Honda and Tata reported heavy lost.

Market Outlook

India’s economy gained momentum in FY 2015 and is expected to have grown at the fastest pace in five years. Robust urban consumption and public investment have supported growth despite an unfavorable external environment. Recent data point to a soft start to FY 2016: both the manufacturing and services PMIs moderated in April.

Following a really positive sequel of 19th year on year increase the domestic new passenger’s car market has accelerate in April and in May kept the impressive speed, near 30 percent up from the previous year, actually the all time record year.

According to data released by the SIAM, the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers, in May 2016 car passenger’s sales in India had been 282.227, up 29.9%.

Year to date May sales have been 1.288.000, up 12.8% from the last year.

Competitive Arena

In May Maruti was again on top of the list reporting positive figures with 113.162 units (+10.6%) and market share at 48.7%, while Hyundai sold 41.351 units (+10.4%) and was second ahead of Mahindra with 18.349 (+14.0%) and Toyota with 12.614 (+210.0%).

Two very low performance had been scored by Honda, 5th with 9.954 sales (-25.9%) and Tata, 6th with 8.617 (-22.6%) while Renault in 7th place improved 131..7% at 8.343 sales.

As far as the Car Groups performance, the leader Suzuki-Maruti hit a market share of 48.7% of market share, ahead of Hyundai-Kia with 17.8%, Mahindra Group with 7.9% and Toyota with 5.4%.

The best-selling model was again the Maruti Alto 19.874 units (-12.0%) ahead of the Maruti Dzire with 16.968 (-13.7%), the Maruti Wagon R with 13.231 (+6.1%), the Maruti Swift with 12.355 sales (-25.7%), the Hyundai Grand i10 with 12.055 (+19.2%), the Hyundai i20 with 10.472 (+1.3%) and the Maruti Baleno with 10.004, the best new model of the year.
