India new cars market in April hit the record volume for a single month, booming 27% from the same month last year and scoring the 18th year on year increase. Renault kept momentum improving 200%

Market Outlook

Recent data suggest that India’s economy ended FY 2015 on a high note and likely grew at the fastest pace since FY 2010. Industrial production rebounded in February and the PMIs signaled improving economic conditions in March.

Positive mood has continued to fuel the India cars market with an impressive increase in April of the sales volume to hit the highest level ever achieved in a single month while scoring the 18th year on year increase in a string.

According with data reported by the SIAM, the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers, in April 2016 car passenger’s sales in India had been 288.762, up 32.5% for a total of 1.006.307 units (+8.8%) sold year to date.

Competitive Arena

In April Maruti was again on top of the list reporting positive figures with 117.045 units (+16.2%) and market share at 48.4%, while Hyundai sold 42.351 units (+9.7%) ahead of Mahindra with 21.108 (+21.9%) and Renault with 12.426 (+210.0%).

As far as the Car Groups performance, the leader was Suzuki with 48.4% of market share, ahead of Hyundai-Kia with 17.5%, Mahindra Group with 8.7% and Renault-Nissan with 6.4%.

The best-selling model was again the Maruti Alto 16.583 units (-14.3%) ahead of the Maruti Swift with 15.661 sales (-19.9%), the Maruti Wagon R with 15.323 (+1.1%) and the Maruti Dzire with 13.256 (-9.4%).
