India Vehicles Market in first half 2016 up 11% while Renault rose 176%. The market is fueled by strong economic momentum and by the success of several new models, with Renault Kwid already in 5th.

Market Outlook

India’s economy picked up in Q4 FY 2015, driving growth for the full fiscal year to accelerate to a six-year high.

However, the economy remains hampered by falling exports and shrinking fixed investment, and concerns over the methodology of the GDP series have led many to believe that growth is being overestimated.

Anyhow, the domestic car passenger’s market is living a gold period and June was the 20th year on year increase in a string while with a slow speed compared with the previous two months roaring data.

According to data released by the SIAM, the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers, in June 2016 the car passenger’s sales in India had been 222.756, up 2.6%.

Year to date sales have been 1.511.000, up 11.2% from the last year.

Competitive Arena

In June Maruti was again on top of the list while reporting negative figures with 92.133 units (-10.2%) and market share at 41.4%, while the second, Hyundai, kept the speed with 39.806 sales (+9.7%) ahead of Mahindra with 15.688 (+10.0%) and Toyota with 13.567 (+29.7%).

In 5th place Tata, with 12.509 units (+21.7%) followed by Renault with 11.837 (+172.7%) Honda with 11.407 sales (–37.9%) and Ford with 9.465 (+109.1%).

The first half ended celebrating the Renault star, up 170% and landing in 5th place.

As far as the Car Groups performance, in June the leader Suzuki-Maruti hit a market share of 41.4% of market share, ahead of Hyundai-Kia with 17.9%, Renault-Nissan alliance with 7.7% and Mahindra Group with 7.1%.

The best-selling model was again the Maruti Alto 15.750 units (-25.4%) ahead of the Maruti Dzire with 15.660 (-28.8%) and the star of the month, the Hyundai Grand i10 with 12.678 (+41.3%).

In fourth place the Maruti Wagon R with 11.962 (-9.5%) followed by the Renault Kwid, with 9.459, the best new model of the year, the Maruti Swift with 9.033 sales (-47.9%), , the Hyundai i20 with 8.990 (-17.1%), the Toyota Innova with 8.171 (+97.2%), the Hyundai Creta with 7.700 and the Maruti Baleno with 6.967. .
