Japan Vehicles Sales – May 2014. The new models revolution is shocking the market with Daihatsu Tanto, Suzuki Wagon-R and Honda Fit on a podium that do not include a Toyota after years. May car sales were down 1% while the yearly figure is still heavy positive.
In May 2014 accordingly with data released by JADA, JAMA and JAIA, the Japanese Associations of car manufacturers, new Light Passengers Vehicles sold have been 362.576, down 1.0% from year ago. Year to date May sales have been 2.548.000, up 14.0% from year ago.
Toyota retailed 96.022 cars with 26.5% of share, down 0.2 points from April. In the first five months of the year, sales have been 689.864 with share at 27.1%, down 1.7 points from year ago. The first Toyota model was the Aqua with 12.138 sales ranking only in 5th place. No one Toyota in the podium is a clamorous fact in Japan!
Suzuki in second place retailed 56.722 cars with share at 15.6%, down 1.7 points from April, while cumulate sales at 336.352 with share at 13.2%, up 0.2 points from last year. The last generation Wagon-R jumped in second place with 13.258 retails.
Honda was third selling 53.991 units and 14.9% of share, down 0.8 points from April. Year to date figures were 407.347 retails and 16.0% of share, up 1.6 points from year ago. The Fit was third with 12.984 sales.
Daihatsu was fourth with 50.647 sales and 14.0% of share, down 0.6 points from the previous month. Year to date sales were 323.472 with 12.7% of share, up 0.4 points from last year. The k-car Tanto was best-selling model last month with 18.656 sales.
Nissan was fifth with 43.357 retails and 12.0% of share, up 0.3 points. Year to date sales were 336.893 with share at 13.2%, up 0.5 points from 2013. The Dayz was fourth with 12.402 retails.
Mazda was sixth with 14.288 retails and 3.9% of share, up 0.7 points from the awful previous month with cumulate sales at 107.044 and share at 4.2%, down 0.1 points from last year.
Looking at the best-selling models, Daihatsu Tanto, Suzuki Wagon-R and Honda Fit on the podium, followed by Nissan Dayz and Toyota Aqua. Behind, in a general decline of Toyota model the new Voxy ranked in 10th place for the first time.
Honda Vezel advanced one spot and ranked 13th with 7.899 retails.
