Malaysia new cars market runs for the record.

Malaysia new cars market

Malaysia new cars market runs for the record after the positive performances scored in September and October having reduced the gap from the last year record at only 0.4%. In October Proton dropped in 4th place.

Economic Outlook

Malaysia’s economy expanded 4.7% annually in the third quarter of 2015, a slight moderation from the 4.9% recorded in Q2.

Nevertheless, the figure is an indication that the economy is robust despite the backdrop of pallid external demand. The external sector’s contribution to growth turned around as manufactured goods, which make up 40% of exports, began to pick up due in part to the lower value of the ringgit.

On 23 October, Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the 2016 federal budget. The budget attempts to balance fiscal consolidation with measures that would bolster economic growth momentum, however, some analysts are skeptical about whether it will achieve either objective.

Market Outlook

Despite the uncertain due to the political scandal that has recently involved the government, a slow economic speed and the high volume hit after the three consecutive annual record posted between 2012 and 2014, the Malaysian car passengers market is in line to hit again its record this year.

Indeed according to data released by the M.A.A., the Malaysian Automotive Association, the total sales in the first ten months of the year had been down only 0.4% at 542.143 units, only around 2.000 below the last year record. In September the market rose 6.9% with 50.672 units sold and in October it was positive again with 55.742 sales (+33%).

Actually Malaysia ranks as the World’s 21st market, the third in the South East Asia.

Competitive Arena

In October, the market leader Perodua sold 17.305 (-2.1%) vehicles with year-to-date sales at 174.832 (+10.7%) and market share at 31.1%. The usual second player, Proton dropped in 4th place with 8.026 sales (-13%) and was outpaced by Toyota with 9.000 units (+13.7%) and Honda with 8.504 (+37.4%).

As far as the ranking by group, in the year to date Perodua was obviously the leader with 32.3% of market share ahead of Proton with 16.1%, Toyota with 14.3% and Honda with 13.8%.

As far as the best-selling models, the leader was the Proton Saga with 9.354 units (+0.2%), followed by Perodua Axia with 8.561 (+257%) and Perodua Myvi with 4.481 (-34.8%). The new Honda HR-V ranked in 7th place with 2.762 sales.
