Malaysia Vehicles Sales in 2016. False start.

Malaysia Vehicles Sales in 2016

Malaysia Vehicles Sales in 2016 scored an awful start with volumes down over 20% after two months. All top manufacturers reported heavy lost. Perodua place all models on podium with Axia, Myvi and Alza in a row.

Market Outlook

Following a really uncertain 2015 trend, ended with the highest sales level, just a whisper above the previous record, the 2016 outlook for the automotive industry in Malaysia was almost negative, due to low economic growth, weak consumer demand and expectations for tax increase.

Indeed according to data released by the M.A.A., the Malaysian Automotive Association, the year started really bad, with both January and February reported with heavy lost and sales respectively of 44.583 (-21.3%) and 37.870 (-24.8%). For a market usually stable with little oscillations, the February fall was the highest out of last 36 months.

Year to date the total vehicles sales were 152.594, down 23.0% from the same period last year.

Competitive Arena

Ford, Toyota, Proton and Perodua were reported with the highest fall in this start of the year. In February, the market leader Perodua sold 14.014 vehicles (-24.7%) with 35.8% of market share.

In second place the other domestic producer, Proton with 5.947 sales, down 28.0%, followed by Honda with 5.616 sales (-7.1%) and Toyota with 2.917 units (-41.5%).
