Mayotte Cars sales grew 8.9% in the 2018, closing with 1.412 units sold. Peugeot kept the throne – improving just 3% – ahead of Dacia. Outstanding performances were registered by Ford – up 25.1% – and Kia, gaining the 6th position.
Mayotte’s economic activity is based primarily on the agricultural sector, including fishing and livestock raising. Mayotte is not self-sufficient and must import a large portion of its food requirements, mainly from France. The economy and future development of the island are heavily bound to French financial assistance, an important supplement to GDP. However, Mayotte’s remote location is an obstacle to the development of tourism.
Mayotte’s market in the 2017, registered 1.259 units sold, while in the 2018, the market has improved by 8.9% from the previous year, with sales at 1.412.
In the competitive landscape, Peugeot was still the market leader with 414 sales (+3%) followed by Dacia with 292 and Ford – surging to 25.1% – with 259 units sold. Impressive performance was scored by Kia, gaining the 6th place, up 146.2%.
