Moldova new vehicles market is falling down 22% in the 2015 hit by economic crisis and political scandals. Dacia is market leader with over 20% of market share followed by Skoda and Hyundai. Dacia Logan is the best-selling model.

Economic Outlook

Economic conditions in Moldova continue to deteriorate against a backdrop of yet another political crisis. On 29 October, Moldova’s Parliament voted to dismiss the government that was sworn in on 30 July a few weeks after the arrest of Vladimir Filat, a former Prime Minister and leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

The arrest of Filat is part of an investigation into the theft of USD 1 billion from the country’s banking system. Many analysts have pointed out that this was a massive-scale fraud, yet it is still unclear how many politicians were involved. Despite the difficult political situation, Moldova’s government managed to sign the far-reaching Association Agreement with the European Union and remains committed to its pro-European course.

Market Outlook

Following five years of steady growth, Moldovan vehicles market is now suffering for the political crisis which added its effects to the economic turbulence hitting all the region due to Ukraine crisis and CIS countries evolution.

Following a really sharp first half, with vehicles sales fallen over 26%, in the third quarter of the 2015 the market kept the decline in July (-14.8%) and August (–36.2%) before resurging in September (+31.4%)

Indeed, according to data released by Ceauto.hu, the total light passengers vehicles sold in September have been 372  while year to date sales were 2.535, down 22.5% from the correspondent month last year.
