2013 Morocco car market fell 7%. Dacia market share at 25%.

2013 Morocco Car Market fell 7% following the all-time record scored in the previous year, with Renault – Dacia leading the market thanks to strong local heritage and the new plant recently inaugurated on the Mediterranean cost.

Following the record volume scored in the 2012, the first month of the 2013 have been weak for this market while forecast were for a second half recovery.

These expecations failed and the market kept low accross all the year ending with an almost 10.000 unit loss from the previous.

Indeed, according with data released by A.I.V.A.M., the local Association of Car Manufacturers, the total Light Vehicles Passneger sold have been  121.238 units, losing 7% from the previous year.

In 2013, the Morocco’s was the World’s 48th car market and the fourth in Africa after South Africa, Algeria and Egypt.

Over 40% of market share was held by local manufacturers, Dacia and Renault. Dacia sold 24.4k vehicles, losing over 2k from the previous year while increasing market share at 25.3%. Renault has lost over 5k units with share at 16.1, up 0.3 points from 2012.

Surprisingly, Ford overtook Peugeot in the race for the third place selling 8.471 cars and increasing share at 8.7%, up 0.8 points from 2012, while Peugeot fell in fourth with 8.220 sales and 8.5% of share.

Hyundai kept the fifth place recovering the 8.5% of share level, after the 2012 drop, while Fiat outpaced Citroen gaining the seventh place with 6.5k and 6.7% of share.

Volkswagen performance was negative as it fell in 8th place, down 4 spots from 2011 and 2 from 2012 with 4.5k sales and 4.7% of share. Nissan was the best Japanese, outpacing Toyota, while Mercedes was the leader of the still marginal premium brand, ranking in the 15th place.
