Morocco new vehicles sales shy in the first half 2015 hit by the harsh time spent by the market leader Dacia. However, the Romanian brand, producing in Morocco kept the entire podium with Logan, Duster and Dokker.
In the recently approved 2016 budget, the Moroccan government expects GDP growth of 3.0% and sees price of oil averaging USD 61 per barrel. Under this scenario, the government aims to reduce the budget deficit from this year’s 3.9% to 3.5%.
Growth in 2016 will be sustained primarily by public investment as the government aims to direct this money into 497 different projects, which include commissioning a new wind-energy plant and continuing construction of the USD 9.5 billion Noor 1 solar power plant, which is set to become the largest in the world. Lastly, the budget plan strives to support SMEs by facilitating access to credit and revising the current taxation on households to boost the domestic economy and create 26,000 jobs in 2016, 15.5% more than were created in 2015.
Following the flat performance scored in the 2014, the Morocco new vehicles market started the 2015 shy with a little 2.8% recorded in the first half, with June fell over 10% and losing almost all the positive gap gained at that point compared with the previous year.
According to data released by the A.I.V.A.M. the Association of Vehicles Importers in Morocco, the total new Light Passenger Vehicles sold in Morocco in the first half of the 2015 have been 62.242, up 2.8% compared with the correspondent month last year, while June sales had been 9.100, down 10.1%.
Preliminary data in the third quarter are really positive with market growing over 30% in July August period allowing a full year projection with sales above 130.000 units, potentially the new all-time record.
Dacia continued to dominate the market selling over 15.800 units in the first half albeit losing 17.6%, while Renault in second place registered 5.852 vehicles, up 13.4% and Ford in third place sold 5.203 units (+10.0%).
The best-selling model was again the Dacia Logan with 5.903 units (+10.1%) ahead of the Dacia Sandero with 3.154 (-15.5%) and the Dacia Dokker with 3.115 (-22.0%).
