Morocco Vehicles Sales in Q1 2016

Morocco Vehicles Sales in Q1 2016 boomed by 23%. Ford has taken the 2nd place to Renault while Hyundai slipped in 4th. The market was fueled by expanding economy and strong rebates.

Market Outlook

Morocco’s economic activity slowed in the first quarter to a 1.7% annual increase from a 5.2% expansion in Q4 2015. The deceleration was driven by a contraction in the agricultural sector due to a drought during the winter months. Conversely, the non-agricultural sector continued to expand, although at a slower pace.

According to data released by the A.I.V.A.M. the Association of Vehicles Importers in Morocco, the new vehicles sold in January had been 11.309, up 33.0%, followed by 11.296 units (+21.5%) in February and 12.961 (+16.7%) in March, for a total Q1 registrations at  35.566, up 23%.

Competitive Arena

During the Q1, Dacia further reinforced its position as leader, selling 8.638 units (+32.0%) and gaining the 24.3% of market share. Up on the podium was also Ford with 3.028 units (+18.8%) just ahead of Renault with 2.897 units (+5.7%).

Hyundai ranked 4th with 2.795 units (+7.3%) ahead of Peugeot with 2.498 (+12.4%), Fiat with 2.346 (-0.8%) and Volkswagen with 1.993 (+32.2%).

As far as the Car Groups performance, the leader was Renault-Nissan with 36.0% of market share, ahead of PSA with 11.2%, Volkswagen with 9.9% and FCA with 8.8%.
