Netherlands Vehicles Market in Q1 2016

Netherlands Vehicles Market in Q1 2016 fell down near 10% after the sales boom reported in the last December of last year.While almost all brands reported falls, Mazda, Hyundai and Opel improved fast.

Market Outlook

Lower national gas production has slowed down economic growth in 2016 despite the improvements registered in the housing market and in the employment index. The slowdown in exports due to weak global demand adversely influenced the car demand in the Q1 2016.

Furthermore the Q4 2015 strong sales due to sales anticipation for ends of incentives from January 1st, was expected to hit sales in the first half of the 2016.

According to data released by the Reivereninging, the Dutch Association of Car Manufacturers, the 2016 started with 40.776 January sales (-14.4%) and reached the negative peak in February with 28.408, (-15.0%) while March was finally up 4.3% with 29.869 units. In the first quarter total ca passenger’s sales had been 99.053, down 9.7%

Competitive Arena

Volkswagen was again on top in the Q1 with 11.616 sales (-22.2%) with market share at 11.8%, followed by Peugeot with 7.697 (-9.2%), Opel with 7.487 (+17.7%), Renault with 6.482 (-36.3%) and Kia with 6.153 (+2.5%).

Volkswagen dominated the performance by group with market share at 22.3%, followed by PSA with 11.9% even like Renault-Nissan, Hyundai-Kia with 10.0% and General Motors with 7.6%.

In the best-selling model ranking the leader was the Kia Picanto with 3.034 sales (-12.9%), ahead to the Volkswagen Golf with 3.012 (-10.7%) and the Volkswagen  Polo with 2.867 (-28.7%).
