In 2022 the New Zealand Car Market totals 116,451 sales, the highest in the last 5 years and a 3.8% increase compared to 2021. The year comes to an end with December reporting 8,500 new registrations and growing 12.9% after a 0.4% fall in the previous month.
Looking at cumulative data from 2022 brand-wise, the new leader Mitsubishi reports 17,261 sales (+18.2%), overtaking Toyota with 17,015 (-5.0%) followed by Kia with 11,191 (+9.8%) and Suzuki with 8,444 new sales (+8.0%).
In 5th ranks Hyundai reporting 7,647 sales (+12.3%), followed by Tesla at 6,995 with an impressive +112.7%, MG -up 3 spots- at 5,327 (+39.3%), and Mazda with 5,291 sales (-26.9%)
Honda maintains 9th position with 3,847 sales (-3.7%), in front of Ford -up 1 spot- with 3,171 new car registrations(-10.5%).
