Norway Cars Market hit in the 2017 the 3rd highest sales level ever, keeping the fast process to renovate vehicles with traditional combustion with AFVs, actually at 50% of the mix. The leader, Volkswagen, struggles while Tesla and Volvo are the 2017 winners.

Norway’s economy performed well in the third quarter and is on track to round off a solid year for growth this quarter, despite a contraction in industrial production in October. On 22 November, the minority government and opposition political parties reached a deal to secure passage of the 2018 budget bill in parliament. The deal left the originally projected fiscal surplus largely unchanged, with higher-than-expected taxation (including on CO2 emissions and sugar-containing products) and spending balancing each other out.

Norwegian vehicles market deeply changed in recent year by the decision to boost zero emission vehicles sales and the introduction of a medium terms incentive policy with EV fiscal cost at zero, including VAT and final price for consumers almost equivalent between a traditional combustion and AFV one. The result is the fast replacement of petrol based vehicles with the Hybrid or Electric cars, which have now achieved a monthly sales mix very over 50%.

Pushed by the need to renovate the circulating park, the domestic market is growing without a break since 5 years and the 2017 just ended with a new all time record. Indeed according to data released by the Opplysningsrådet for Veitrafikken AS,  2017 figures report 158.670 car passengers and 35.838 light commercial vehicles, respectively up 2.6% and down 0.5% from the previous year. 2018 Outlook is unchanged and the market is expected to keep growing by 4%.

At brand wise, the leader since years is Volkswagen and the position was confirmed in the 2017 albeit losing 12.9% of sales at 23.212 with a market share of 14.6%.

Thanks to the Hybrid line up, Toyota stands as second with 18.000 sales (+3.1%) ahead of BMW, in the highest ranking worldwide, third with 13.119 units (+8.4%).

Ending an amazing year, Volvo landed in 4th place with 11.750 sales (+33.9%) ahead of Mercedes with 10.625 (+17.6%),  Skoda with 9.042 (+16.3%), Tesla with 8.460 (+143%) and Audi with 7.673 (+0.3%).

The top model was the Volkswagen e-Golf with 6.639 sales (+41%). In second place the BMW i3 with 5.036 sales (+27.4%), followed by the Toyota RAV4 with 4.821 (-2.7%).
