Norway: Tesla Sedan roars ahead in September landing as market leader.

Accordingly with Opplysningsrådet for Veitrafikken AS, in September 2013 new car sold in Norway were 12.168, up 9.3%, the fourth raising moth in a row. Year-to-date sales were positive at 105.784, 1.5% from last year.

Thanks to the arrival of first slot of Model-S, Testa Motors, the San Francisco based fully EV Carmaker started the operations in Norway (and in Europe) with glamour. Delivering 616 vehicles, Tesla was immediately in top ten brands, landing in seventh place.

In Norway the government is using its oil wealth to smooth the way for battery-powered cars and this was already the country of Electric Vehicles, thanks to Nissan Leaf relatively strong sales volume.

Looking at the top brands performance:

Toyota was the market leader but posted again a negative month, selling 1.548 vehicles with a share of 13.4%, down 0.9 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date September sales were 13.659 with a share of 13.0%, up 0.4 points from 2012. Toyota held 4 models in the top 20, with the Auris in 3rd position.

Volkswagen was 2nd, selling 1.512 units with a share of 13.1%, down 0.2 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 14.362 with a share of 13.7%, down 1.6 points from 2012. Volkswagen held 3 models in the top 20, with the Golf in 2nd position.

Volvo jumped to the 3rd position, up 5 spots from August, selling 1.098 vehicles with a share of 9.5%, up 4.5 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 7.779 with a share of 7.4%, down 1.0 points from 2012. Volvo held 3 models in the top 20, with the V40 in 6th position.

Ford fell to the 4th position, selling 733 units with a share of 6.3%, down 1.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 7.644 with a share of 7.3%. The top model was the Focus in 12th position.

BMW climbed to the 5th position, up 2 spots from August, selling 681 units with a share of 5.9%, up 0.6 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 5.274 with a share of 5.0%, down 0.5 points from 2012. The best-selling model was the 3 Series in 14th position.

Norwegians started ordering the Tesla-S almost 1 year ago and when finally at the end of August the first slot of vehicles arrived the huge order bank crated in this periods allowed at tesla motor to achieve an unbelievable resource placing the Model S as market leader at least for this month, with 616 sales and a share of 5.3%.

Volkswagen Golf was 2nd, with 561 units and a share of 4.8%, up 0.4 points from the previous month, followed by Toyota Auris in 3rd with 511 sales and a share of 4.4%, up 0.5 points from August.

Skoda Octavia was 4th, up 3 spots, with 444 units and a share of 3.8%, up 1.0 points from the previous month, followed by Mazda CX-5 in 5th, down 3 spots, with 421 sales and a share of 3.6%, down 0.7 points from the previous month, followed by Volvo V 40 in 6th, up 5 spots, with 373 sales and a share of 3.2%, up 1.3 points from the previous month.
