Portugal Best Selling Cars ranking in 2019 was dominated by the French car makers which place seven out of the top 10 models. Despite hitting the lowest share in the decade, the Renault Clio was still on top of the list, ahead of the best premium model the Mercedes A-Class. In third place the Renault Captur performing the new record share, up 0.6 points from the previous year record.
It is not easy to understand why in Portugal, one of the country with the lowest pro capita income in the European Community, the performance of premium brands is well above the average, with Mercedes and BMW among the top sellers.
In the best-selling models ranking in 2019, we see best premium model, the Mercedes Class A, with a market share at the best level ever (3.4%), almost the double of the 2012 performance.
The market leader was always the same, the Renault Clio, despite in 2019 suffered for the run out of last generation while the ramp up of the new one, just launched in not completed, resulting in a market share of 4.6%, the worst out of the last ten years.
The third step of the podium is hold by the Renault Captur, which hit the new record share of 3.2%, up 0.6 points from the previous record, registered last year.
The French carmakers are dominating the top list, with other 5 models within the top 10, the Citroen C3 in 5th place, the Peugeot 208 in 6th, the Renault Megane in 7th, the Peugeot 2008 in 8th and the Peugeot 308 in 9th.
