Portuguese car market took off 53% in April 2014 posting the eleventh year on year increase and further improving the already outstanding growth pace taken in first quarter. See statistics and sales data on Brands & Models.
In April 2014 accordingly with data released by A.C.A.P., the Portuguese Association of Car Producers, total new Passengers Cars sold have been 12.314, soaring 53.1% from year ago. Year to date April sales have been 46.259, up 43.7% from year ago.
Despite losing share due to short supply of top models, Renault defended the leadership selling 1.485 cars with 12.1% of market share, losing 1.2 points from March. Year to date sales were 5.288 with share at 11.4% down 0.2 points from last year. Clio boomed retails and increased its share at 6.5% while Megane, leader in March, fell in fourth place.
Peugeot was second with 1.171 sales and 9.5% of share, up 0.8 from March. Year to date Peugeot was second as well, advancing one spot from 2013, with 4.282 sales and 9.3% of share, up 0.5 points from year ago. The 208 is stable in second place.
Volkswagen was third just 3 units behind Peugeot. Year to date it has lost one place from 2013 with 4.116 retails and 8.9% of share, but the battle for the second place in really opened.
BMW in fourth sold 914 units with share flat at 7.4%. Year to date sales were 3.784, with 8.2% of share, up 1.0 points from last year.
Mercedes in fifth sold 824 with 6.7% of share, down 0.6 points from the previous month. Year to date figures were 3.470 sales and 7.5% of share, up 0.9 from 2013.
As far as regards the bestselling models, behind Clio and 208, Volkswagen Pol was third with 412 units, followed by Renault Megane and the oldest model in the market, the Fiat Punto, able to be 5th with 371 sales.
