Market Outlook

The latest data confirm that the New Zealand economy continues to outperform most of its OECD peers. Indicators from the fourth quarter of 2016 suggest that the economy remained rock solid and on track to grow at a strong annual rate for the full year. FocusEconomics panelists surveyed this month expect the economy to expand 3.1% in 2017, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast.

Following the moderate increase of the previous year, the domestic vehicles market in 2016 showed a brilliant double-digit performance posting the new all time record with It was the fourth consecutive annual record and one of the best growth since 2010.

The year was really brilliant for Kia (+60.5%), Volvo (+2.4%) and, overall, Jaguar (+113.7%).

The best-selling model was the Ford Ranger with 8.478 sales (+24.3%) followed by the Toyota Corolla with 6.274 (-3.7%) and the Toyota Hilux with 6.187 (+10.0%).
