Q1 2014 World Best selling cars ranking reports the Top 50 car models sold world-wide. The New Year is full of news, behind the two leaders, Corolla and Focus, with Volkswagen Golf soared in third place and a Chinese LCV in fourth.
World automotive industry shines in Q1 2014 growing 4.5% from year ago. March was the thirteen year-on-year growth in a string with 21.6 million sold, almost 1 million more than in 2013. Full Year will be a new all-time record.
The two leaders Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus started the year losing respectively 1 and 6 percent from first quarter 2013. However their gap on the followers is still wide.
Seventh generation Volkswagen Golf was launched in Europe is the last months of 2012, in Q1 2013 were not yet fully launched. However the German icon ended the year in 7th place. Now, with over 223.000 retails Golf was in the podium, improving 27.9% from correspondent period last year.
The best Chinese vehicles is a compact Multivan, the Hongguang produced by Wuling a brand owned by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile is a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Ltd., based in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in southwestern China. This model was 23rd last year and boosting sales by 52%, jumped in fourth place with 210.109 retails.
Hyundai Elantra slipped in fifth place, down 1 spot with 200.000 retails ahead of Ford F-Series in 6th from 3rd with 199.431, Ford Fiesta with 184.949 and Volkswagen Polo with 184.931. Polo and Fiesta are fighting head to head for leadership among small cars.
The leader of mid-size segment, the Toyota Camry was 9th with 178.705 sales, down 3.8% from Q1 2013 while Chevrolet Cruze was 10th with 176.537 units, up 10.2%.
Advancing in 13th place from the 25th, the Volkswagen Lavida was one of bet-selling models in China, scored a great performance with 150.801 retails, up 32%.
BMW Series 3 was the first premium product ranked in 23rd place with 113.105 sales, up 15.6% while the first French model was the Renault Clio in 25th place with 106.723 sales, up 1.8%, just one place ahead of Honda Fit, a great success in Japan, 26th with 105.433 sales, up 39.4%.
Mazda CX-5 was one of best performer, advancing from 57th to 33rd place with 89.616 retails, up 40.6%.
Others two emerging models were Volkswagen Santana, in 43rd from 112th with sales up 137% and Daihatsu Tanto in 46th from 141th with sales up 89%.
The first “Italian” model was out of the Top 50 and was Fiat 500 in 77th (from 86th last year) with 60.077 sales, up 26.2%.
