Qatar car market in 2012 hit a new record.

In the 2012, the Qatar car market posted the third all-time record in a string, after those achieved in 2010 and 2011. Full Year 2012 sales were 83.901, up 34.6%, while December sales were 6.650, up 12.2%, posting the 27 year-on-year growth in a row.

Following these three years of tremendous increase, the country of this small Middle East country surged as the world’s 52nd.

However, future projections are further positive, with market forecast at 140.000 units by 2015.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Toyota leaded the 2012 brand’s ranking with 28.158 sales and a global share of 33,6%. The sales performance in December was low compared to previous months but in 2012 the NSC registered an increase of 3% compared to 2011. Toyota has placed 3 models on the first steps of the 2012 podium.

Nissan was 2nd in 2012 with a share of 17% and with 14.816 cars sold. A step back for the Japanese NSC that in 2011 had a share of 20% but a good result if we look at the negative performance of the first six months of 2012.

Hyundai confirmed the 3rd position with a flat growth compared with the previous year: in 2011 it had a share of 10,2% and did not change in 2012 with 8.493 cars sold, mainly driven by sales of Hyundai Santa Fe (4th in the ranking by models).

Chevrolet was 4th at the end of 2012, very far from the competitors: it took 4,3% of share, down 0,7 points compared with 2011, with only 3.614 cars.

A step forward (and now in the 5th position) for GMC which switched from 3,7% to 4,2% of market share with 3.536 sales.

Kia confirmed more or less the result of the previous year, thanks to a positive Q3, with a share of 3,5% at the end of 2012; Kia Cerato and Kia Rio were the best models sold.

Ford in 7th posted a rRemarkable year increasing share by1.4 points from 2011: the final result for the American was quite good with 2.712 sales and a market share of 3,2%.

Lexus was very closed to Ford with a share of 3,1% and with 2.609 cars sold in 2012; the NSC confirmed the good trend of the first half of the year reaching the 8th position of the ranking.
