Qatar: in 2013 Car Market scored the New All-Time record, despite a slow second half.

Following the spectacular increase shown in the previous two years, the Qatari light passenger’s vehicles market in 2013 rose only 7.6% anyhow scoring the new all-time record at 90.291 units. After a strong first half, in the second the market has lost speed failing the expected 100k volume.

There were no specific reasons behind this lower performance and the medium term forecast remain untouched. More, we forecast a fast growing speed – at double digit level –recovered already in first half 2014.

Toyota was again market leader while with a quota near 30%, one of lowest inside Gulf area. Toyota retailed 28k vehicles last year with a share of 31.5%, down 1.4 points of share from the previous year. Nissan was second, the best performance inside the Arabic Gulf region, with over 14k sales and 16.4% of share, while Hyundai was third with 8k and 9.0% of share, down 1.1 points. All the top three brands have lost share under the pressure of new and more aggressive competitors.

The premium and luxury brands are gaining space. The leader was again Lexus, with 3.2% of market share, followed by Mercedes and BMW. However, Audi posted the strongest increase of the year, advancing in 15th place, up 6 spots, with 1k and doubling share from 0.6 to 1.2%
