Romanian car market in 2018 sharply increased by 24.6%, ending the fifth consecutive year of double-digit growth with sales at 130.953. Dacia Logan dominated the market with sales up 18.5%, followed by Dacia Duster (+28%) and Dacia Sandero (+48%) all the three showing bright performances.
Romanian vehicles market was among the worse in Europe during the 2009 crisis declining to a negative peak in the 2013 with 57.710 car passenger’s sales. Then, the economic recovery pushed the market up with uninterrupted growth up to the 2017. According to data released by the Romanian Department of Internal Transportation, in the 2017 car passenger’s sales have been 105.083 (+10.7%).
In the 2018, the market kept growing fast. Indeed, this year has reached the highest volume of the last decade, closing with 130.953 units sold. Moreover, the market has signed the fifth double-digit annual gain in a row, with sales up 24.6%.
The Dacia Logan is a small family car or compact MPV (Logan MCV) produced jointly by the French manufacturer Renault and its Romanian subsidiary Dacia since 2004. It is currently in its second generation, launched in the 2013 and has been manufactured at Dacia’s automobile plant in Mioveni, Romania, and at Renault’s plants in Morocco, Brazil, Turkey,Russia, Colombia, Iran, India and South Africa.
It has also been marketed as the Renault Logan, Nissan Aprio, Mahindra Verito, Renault Tondar 90, Lada Largus (the MCV), Nissan NP200 (the pick-up) or Renault Symbol, depending on the existing presence or positioning of the Renault brand.
The Dacia Logan, the first of the rank recorded 20.363 sales (+18.5%) a huge gap over the second, the Dacia Duster with 8.693 sales, (28.0%) and the third, the Dacia Sandero with 5.655 (+48%).
In fourth place the Skoda Octavia with 4.443 (+18.4%) followed by the Renault Clio with 3.794 (-52.1%), the Renault Megane with 3.190 (+31.7%) and Ford Focus with 3.007 (+5%).
In the eighth place, with 3.004 sales placed both the Skoda Rapid (+19.4%) and Opel Astra (+7.5%), the Volkswagen Golf with 2.533 (+11.5%) and the Suzuki Vitara with 2.229 (+19.5%).
