Romania: May 2013 Car Market heavy dropped. Premium Brands up.

Following a robust increase posted in April, when the 21% market increase had given to the sector the hope to see the end of long depression, May has frozen all the expectations, posting a sales volume of only 4.107 units, collapsing 47.0% from May 2012.

Cumulated sales were 20.582, down 20.9% from last year.

Looking at top brands performance:

Dacia in 1st sold 1.133 vehicles with a share of 27.6%, up 0.1 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date May sales were 5.545 with a share of 26.9%. Dacia held 5 models in the top 25, with the Logan as market leader.

Volkswagen was 2nd selling 445 units with a share of 10.8%, down 1.7 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 2.278 with a share of 11.1%.Volkswagen held 4 models in the top 25, with the Golf in 4th position.

Ford maintained its 3rd position (5th year-to-date) selling 272 units with a share of 6.6%, down 0.4 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 1.203 with a share of 5.8%. Ford held 3 models in the top 25, with the Focus in 8th position.

Skoda was 4th (3rd year-to-date) selling 252 units with a share of 6.1%, down 0.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 1.723 with a share of 8.4%. The best-selling model was the Rapid in 9th.

Renault was 5th (4th year-to-date) selling 229 units with a share of 5.6%, up 0.6 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 1.249 with a share of 6.1%. The top model was the Fluence in 12th position.

Looking at the top selling models, Dacia Logan was the market leader with 591 sales and a share of 14.4%, down 2.6 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 3.042 with a share of 14.8%.

Dacia Duster was 2nd with 268 units and a share of 6.5%, up 1.8 points from the previous month, followed by Dacia Sandero in 3rd, up 8 spots from April, with 118 sales and a share of 2.9%, up 1.0 points from the previous month.

Volkswagen Golf was 4th with 116 units and a share of 2.8%, down 0.7 points from the previous month, followed by Dacia Dokker in 5th with 111 sales and a share of 2.7%, down 0.3 points from April, and by Opel Astra in 6th with 100 sales and a share of 2.4%, down 0.9 points from the previous month.

Ford Focus was 7th with 98 units and a share of 2.4%, up 0.1 points from the previous month, followed by Volkswagen Jetta in 8th, up 5 spots from April, with 95 sales and a share of 2.3%, up 0.8 points from the previous month.
