Romania: 2013. Market lost 13% while Dacia boomed

Accordingly with data released by Romanian Department of internal transportation, in December 2013 total cars sold in Romania have been 5.569, up 15.3% from last year, breaking a negative series of 3 consecutive losses. However, the entire year was heavily negative reporting a double digit loss with 57.719 sales, down 13.1%.

Sharing general evaluation on Brands & Models performance, based not only on volume but also on results compared with potential, focus2move Team quoted the Best of the Year 2013, as Brand and Model. This was the result:

Brand of Year was – without any doubt – Dacia again leader booming share at 30.4%, up 5.7 points from 2012. Second was Mercedes ranked in 9th with share at 3.4%, up 0.8 points from 2012. Third was Opel in 6th with share at 4.6%, up 0.8 points from 2012.

Model of Year was the new Dacia Logan in 1st place with 18.6% of share, up 1.7 points from 2012. Second was Dacia Sandero in 4th with 3.2% of share, up 1.6 points from last year. Third was Renault Clio in 13th place with share at 1.5%, up 0.5 from year ago.

Looking at top brands performance:

Dacia pushed hard in December booming sales at 1.972 units with share flied at 35.4%, up 4.8 points from November. Full Year sales have been 17.554 with a share of 30.4%, a phenomenal 5.7 improvement from last year. 2013 best-selling model in Romania was the Logan with a share of 18.6%, one of the highest achieved by the market leader worldwide. The SUV Duster ranked 2th, Sandero 4th, Dokker 8th and Lodgy 19th.

Volkswagen in second sold 490 cars with share dropped at 8.8%, down 1.7 points of share from the previous month. Full Year Volkswagen was second with 6.028 sales and a share of 10.4%, down 1.2 points from last year. The top model was Golf in 5th while Jetta was 11th and Passat 12th.

Skoda in third sold 461 vehicles with share fell at 8.3%, down 2.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date Skoda was third with 5.128 sales and a share of 8.9%, down 0.5 points from last year. The top model Octavia was third while Rapid was 10th and Fabia 16th.

Ford was fourth selling 418 units with a share of 7.5%, up 0.1 points of share from the previous month. In the year Ford was fourth with 3.662 sales and a share of 6.3%, down 1.3 points from 2012. Full Year Focus and Fiesta ranked respectively 6th and 9th.

Renault ranked fifth with 290 vehicles and a share of 5.2%, up 1.0 points from the previous month. Full Year Renault was fifth with 3.073 sales and a share of 5.3%, down 1.6 points from last year. The best-selling model was the Clio in 13th followed by Fluence and Megane respectively 17th and 22nd.
