Romania Cars Market in First Half 2016

Romania Cars Market in First Half 2016 grew only 2% after the tumbling of June. Volkswagen gained one spot. The Dacia Logan retained the lead of the models ranking despite losing.

Market Outlook

The Romanian economy accelerated to a multi-year high in 2015 thanks to a strong fiscal stimulus and substantial EU investment funds.

In Q1, the economy expanded at a solid pace as increased government spending ahead of key parliamentary elections due later this year along with tax cuts and wage hikes for public employees spurred a consumption boom.

Data from Q2 indicate that domestic demand is still the main driver of growth.

Meantime, examining the Romanian car sales during the first half of the year, it’s evident the sharp slowdown recorded in June, impeding the market growth. Overall the sales increase has been in double digit until April, reaching the peak in February, and less intense in the last two months.

According to data released by the Romanian Department of Internal Transportation, the total new passengers cars sold in April had been 6.174 (+12.6%), followed by an even better May with 6.345 units (+7.1%) and June with only 5.462 sales (-36.7%).

During the first half of the 2016, the sales had been 35.452, up only 2.8% compared to the same period last year.
