Romania 2012. Sales dropped 79% in the last 5 years

In December 2012 the Romanian car market posted the 9th consecutive year-on-year decline, with 4.828 sales, down 37.5% from last year. The 2012 ended at 66.267 sales, down 18.9% from last year and 79% from the all-time record posted in the 2007 at 315.621 units.

Looking at the best brand performance:

Dacia dominated the market, selling 1.303 units with a share of 27.0%, up 2.8 points of share from the previous month. During the last year Dacia sold 16.390 units with a share of 24.7%, down 4.2 points from the 2011. Dacia held 4 models in the top 20, with the Logan as market leader and the Duster in 2nd position this month.

Volkswagen was 2nd, with 570 units and a share of 11.8%, up 0.2 points of share from the previous month. This year Volkswagen sold 7.702 units with a share of 11.6%, up 0.9 points from the 2011. The best-selling model was the Passat, 4th this month while the Golf was 5th.

Skoda was 3rd, with 401 units and a share of 8.3%, down 0.6 points of share from the previous month. During the 2012 Skoda sold 6.235 units with a share of 11.6%, up 0.9 points from the 2011. The best-selling model was the Octavia, 3rd this month.

Renault was 4th (5th year-to-date), selling 280 units with a share of 5.8%, down 0.9 points from the previous month. This year Renault sold 4.580 units with a share of 6.9%, down 1.5 points from the 2011. The Renault Clio was 15th this month.

BMW was 5th (9th year-to-date) selling 258 units with a share of 5.3%, up 2.4 points from the previous month. Sales in 2012 were 2.215 with a share of 3.3%, up 1.0 points from the 2011. The best-selling model was the BMW X5in 19th, followed by the X1 in 20th.

Hyundai was 6th, selling 229 units with a share of 4.7%, down 1.2 points from the previous month. During this year Hyundai sold 3.068 units with a share of 4.6%, up 1.4 points from the 2011. The Hyundai ix35 was 11th this month.

Looking at the best-selling models, the Dacia Logan dominated market leader, selling 795 units with a share of 16.5%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. Sales in 2012 were 11.255 with a share of 17.0%.

The Duster was 2nd (3rd last month and year-to-date) with 283 units and a share of 5.9%, up 1.3 points from the previous month, followed by the Octavia in 3rd with 209 units and a share of 4.3%, down 1.3 points from November.

The Passat was 4th (17th last month and 11th year-to-date) with 130 units and a share of 2.7%, up 1.3 points from the previous month followed by the Golf in 5th with 125 sales and 2.6% of share, down 1.1 points from November.

The Jetta was 6th (10th last month and 8th year-to-date) with 121 sales and 2.5% of share, up 0.9 points from the previous month, followed by the Dacia Lodgy in 7th (24th last month and 37th year-to-date) with 109 units and a share of 2.3%, up 1.3 points from November.

Behind it was a good month for the Kia Sportage in 12th, up 17 spots from November, for the BMW X5 in 19th, up 24 spots, for the BMW X1 in 29th, up 39 spots , for the Fiat Qubo in 22nd ( 77th year-to-date)and for the BMW 5 Series in 26th, up 30 spots from the previous month.
