Russia: car market dropped 5% in September. Lada at lowest share ever.

According to data released by AEB, the Association of European Businesses in the Russian Federation, Russian car market in September had lost 4.9% from year ago at 246.895 sales. Year to date 2013 sales were 2.046.052, down 6.2%. Despite the last was the 7th year on year drop in a streak, Russian car market confirm its leadership in Europe ahead of Germany.

Following the government introduction of new sustains at car loans, the market has not reacted, keeping the natural declining trend, generated by strong incentive scheme run during the 2011 and 2012, expired in March 2013. These incentives created a “pull ahead” effect, with many consumers convinced to anticipate the new car purchase to keep the incentive of extra-discount. Now those clients are riding their new car and the market tend to decline in the year on year comparison.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Lada continued to lose share and in September was at 16.2%, one of lowest ever in Russia. September sales were 40.011 with year-to-date figures at 343.368 with a share of 16.8%, down 1.6 points from full year 2012. The bestselling model was again the Granta, market leader.

Kia in 2nd reaffirmed as Russia is one of strongest market for the Korean brand. September sales were 18.004 with a share of 7.3%, flat from the previous month. Year-to-date Kia was third with 146.986 sales and 7.2% of share, up 0.8 points from last year. The top model was the Rio in third, while also Cee’d and Sportage were in Top 25.

Renault was third, up 1 spot, selling 17.254 units with a share of 7.0%, up 0.5 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date Renault was second with 155.082 and 7.6% of share, up 1.1 points from FY 2012. The top model was the Duster ranked 5th.

Hyundai recovered the 4th place with 17.171 sales and a share of 7.0%, up 0.9 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 135.110 with a share of 6.6%, up 0.6 points from last year. The best-selling model was the Solaris in 2nd position.

Chevrolet was 5th with 16.071 sales and a share of 6.5%, down 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales it was 6th with 127.742 sales and 6.2% of share, down 0.8 points from FY 2012. The top model Cruze fell in 9th place.

Nissan advanced in 6th with 15.002 sales and a share of 6.1%, up 1.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date Nissan was 8th with 101.965 sales and a share of 5.0%, down 0.2 points. The bestselling model was Qashqai ranked 14th.

Volkswagen was 7th selling 14.895 units with a share of 6.0%, down 0.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date it was 5th with 128.728 sales and a share of 6.3%, up 0.2 points from last year. The top model was the Polo advanced in 6th.

Toyota was 8th, selling 13.715 vehicles with a share of 5.6%, down 0.3 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 115.148 with a share of 5.6%, up 0.4 points from last year. The top model was RAV4 ranked 19th.

Lada Granta kept the market leadership selling with 14.743 units and a share of 6.3%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 127.477 with a share of 6.3%, up 2.1 points from FY 2012.

Hyundai Solaris was 2nd with 10.676 units and a share of 4.6%, up 0.9 points from the previous month. Year to date sales were 85.759 with a share of 4.2%, up 0.4 points from last year.

Kia Rio was again 3rd with 8.632 units and a share of 3.7%, up 0.6 points from the previous month. Year to date sales were 67.678.

Lada 4×4 was 4th, up 1 spot, with 6.895 sales and a share of 3.0%, up 0.5 point from the previous month, followed by Renault Duster 5th, up 2 spots, with 6.815 sales and a share of 2.9%, up 0.5 points.

Volkswagen Polo advanced in 6th, up 3 spots, with 6.160 sales and a share of 2.6%, up 0.2 points, ahead of Lada Largus, 7th with 5.319 units and Lada Kalina, soared in 8th from 20th with 5.305 units.

Chevrolet Cruze was 9th, down 5 spots, with 5.070 sales and a share of 2.2%, while Ford Focus fell in 10th from 6th with 4.565 sales.
