Russia: September ’12 market up 10%. Russia the World’s 6th market.

The Russian light vehicles market unrested growth continues and the positive series now achieved the 30th month, becoming the longest actually in the world. Market increase remains at double digit and had not been influenced by negative clouds arriving from Western Europe. In October, Fiat announced to have postponed the plan to build a new plant in the St. Petersburg area, after months of negotiation with the local Deputy Governor. Fiat Group had announced a couple of years ago a plan to invest 40 billion rubles for a plant with a capacity above 60.000 annual units and a formal agreement was signed with the St. Petersburg governorship in June 2012. Although the official reason behind the surprising decision to “postpone” the new plant investment was Fiat’s failure on raising funds for this project plus a review of engineering and logistical correlated costs, we believe the true is different. Indeed, in this month Fiat had also announced to postpone all new products plan for Europe and the need to close a plant in Italy. From the other side, in Brazil, it started the building of its second plant.
