Russia car market up 5% in October 2012. Renault up, Toyota down.

The October sales were 253.732, up 5.4% and the year-to-date sales were 2.435.000, up 13.0%. Full year 2012 forecast issued by Focus2move.com was stable at 2.9 million units, up 11% from 2011. However, in the next months the market should start a new phase, with a more flat trend and a 2013 volume at 3.0 million.

The market leader, Autovaz, announced the decision to discontinue the production of Samara, the best-selling model in Russia, next year, after 29 years of production

According to Russian Institute of Statistics in the first nine months of the year the Russian car production has risen by 14.2% from last year.

Looking at the best brand performance:

Autovaz strongly maintained its first position, selling 50.022 units with a share of 19.7%, up 0.4 points of share from September and 2.0 points from 2011. Year-to-date October sales were 399.142 with a share of 18.3%. Again Autovaz held the top 3 models: the new Granta, 1st, the Priora, 2nd, and the Kalina, 3rd. The Lada 4×4 was 10th.

Chevrolet was 2nd with 18.724 sales and a share of 7.4%, up 0.3 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 153.994 with a share of 7.1%. The top model was the Cruze, 9th YTD, followed by the Niva, 11th year-to-date.

Renault was 3th (4th year-to-date), two spots better than September and four than August. Sales were 16.903 and share was 6.7%, up 1.3 points from the previous month, thanks to the Duster, 7th this month and 17th YTD. Year-to-date sales were 138.530 with a share of 6.3%

Kia in 4th was outpaced by Renault for 61 units. Sales were 16.842 with a share of 6.6%, up 0.2 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 140.677 with a share of 6.4%. The best-selling model was the Rio, 5th this month.

Volkswagen was 5th, with 15.533 units and a share of 6.1%, up 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 135.084 with a share of 6.2%.The top model was the Polo, 7th year-to-date.

Hyundai was 6th with 14.650 sales and a share of 5.8%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 132.089 with a share of 6.1. The best-selling model was the Solaris, 4th year-to-date.

Nissan was 7th with 12.401 sales and a share of 4.9%, down 0.4 points from September. YTD sales were 118.930 with a share of 5.5%. The Juke was the top model, 24th year-to-date.

Toyota in 8th sold 11.789 units with a share of 4.6%, down 0.3 points from the previous month. The Camry was 22nd year-to-date.

Ford was 9th, with 9.640 sales and a share of 3.8%, down 0.6 points from the previous month. The Ford Focus was 6th this month.

Gaz was 10th, with a share of 3.3% and 8.297sales, only 45 more than Skoda, 11th with 8.252 units sold.

Looking at the best-selling models performance, the new Lada Granta confirmed its first position (3rd year-to-date), with 14.197 sales and a share of 5.6%, up 0.2 from the previous month.

Lada Priora was second with 10.843 sales and 4.3%, down 0.2 points from September, followed by the year-to-date leader, the Lada Kalina, with 10.556 units and a share of 4.2%, up 0.6 points from the previous month.

In 4th there was the Hyundai Solaris with 9.878 sales and a share of 3.9%, up 0.4 points from the previous month, followed in 5th by the Kia Rio, with 8.020 units and by Ford Focus, 6th with 6.731 sales.

A great performer was the Renault Duster that climbed to the 7th position from the 11th(17th year-to-date), thanks to 6.680 sales and a share of 2.6, up 0.7 points from September, followed by the stable Polo(8th) that sold 6.156 units.

The top 10 was closed by the Chevrolet Cruze, 9th, that sold 5.864 units, and by the Lada 4×4 with 5.374 sales.
